Plan Your Event
The Ruby is available for use by the Duke community—for courses, arts projects, hosting programs and events, and more. From a tap dance rehearsal to a 16mm film screening, there is bound to be a facility at the arts center that can support your vision.
Reserve Event Space
Reservations for the performance and event spaces at the Ruby, including the von der Heyden Studio Theater, the film screening theater, and others, are managed by arts center staff (in conjunction with the appropriate academic departments and the UCAE Theatre Reservations Office).
In general, we recommend you contact us as early as possible in your planning process. Your formal request to reserve space should be made at least four weeks in advance. While there is no rental fee, event hosts are generally expected to cover the cost of equipment and event staff. Please note reservations for others are typically limited to one academic year in advance.
Priority is given to Duke departments, programs, and student organizations, but outside organizations may also inquire about using the Ruby for an event.
To initiate an event space request or request further information, write to venues@duke.edu or call Jenn Moerman, Assistant Manager for Scheduling and Operations, at 919-660-1701. For general information about booking a Duke venue, visit the Duke Box Office website.

Student Reservations
With the opening of the Rubenstein Arts Center, Duke’s student groups now have access to state-of-the-art studio space for rehearsals and performances in the center of campus. Several rooms in the Ruby are prioritized for student use, including:
- The Ruby Lounge (available for daytime use as a student-focused lounge, programming will primarily be scheduled for evenings and weekends)
- Multipurpose (Dance) Studio 124
- Multipurpose (General) Studio 129
To initiate a student space request for these spaces or another Ruby venue, write to artscenter@duke.edu or call Jenn Moerman, Assistant Manager, Scheduling and Operations, at 919-660-1701.
