Amandla is Duke University's first African chorus, offering performances with songs in various African languages and cultural storytelling.

There is a new photo wall in the lobby of the Rubenstein Arts Center! Since February 2019, the large wall outside of the von der Heyden Studio Theater has been available for student groups to share their portrait photo campaigns in support of major performances. Not only does this photo wall help with performance promotion, it also introduces visitors to the arts center to student creativity at Duke.

Amandla is Duke University’s first African chorus, offering performances with songs in various African languages and cultural storytelling. On February 29, Amandla is presenting “SoMogo Stories: A Musical Celebration of Storytelling in Africa” in Page Auditorium.

“Amandla is ‘power’ in Zulu but it is also power on campus for students of the African diaspora and supporters of the continent to celebrate history, language, and identity through music. It has also been my home for the past three years and I am overjoyed to perform again this year for our showcase,” shared Omolola Sanusi, a Duke junior, creative director for Amandla and leader of the 2019–2020 Creative Arts Student Team.

Is your student group interested in exhibiting a photo campaign in the Ruby? The opportunity is first-come, first-serve, and plans are typically made three months in advance, and students provide the photography and text. Write katy.clune@duke.edu with your proposal.
