A reflection on memory, place and belonging, Fra la Medusa e l’Abisso (Between Medusa and the Abyss) focuses on the interplay of an ancient Sicilian city, its surrounding land and seascape, and the many people who populate it now. Drawing from feminist critique of Freud’s “dark continent,” and playing with language and gesture, the film becomes a mythic antiland that examines the boundaries between historical and current, migrants and locals, us and them.
