Description

Food for [Digital] Thought is an interactive exhibit by the “Inspired Foody” Emma Gabay (T ’19), and part of the larger Undergraduate Art Showcase opening on April 25. The space Gabay will create helps build people’s confidence in their kitchens. Join the Inspired Foody for her open house on Friday, April 19, from 10am-7pm. Gabay will be handing out tasters of food from her cookbook and taking photos of her fellow foodies.  Screen-printed designs of eggs and bananas cover the walls for photo shoots or inspiration. A digital cookbook with recipes for eggs and bananas will be available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to come alone, come with a friend, or join another visitor to participate . . . and get hungry.

“Food is a conversation. It’s always in the middle of things. A celebration, a confession, a reconciliation, a connection. Sharing food can make friends of once-strangers and family of once-friends. Or it can be the perfect company for a moment alone. Food is not only nourishment (though we all know it must be), nor is it only fuel for the next thing (though too often it is enjoyed in a rush). It is the centerpiece of gathering, it begins with us, for us, and carries within it some of our most human moments. The purpose of Food for [Digital] Thought is to motivate people to cook with what they already have at home.  Why not start with two simple at-home staples, eggs and bananas?”—Emma Gabay, Visual Arts Major, Class of 2019

This project is part of the Undergraduate Art Showcase, on view April 25–May 12.
