Description

Join us in celebrating the Duke AI for Art Competition during this reception and special viewing of entries!

Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) are an artificial intelligence algorithm used to create synthesized images from learned data. While GANs have many practical machine learning applications, they have also been used recently to develop a new, exciting branch of generative art and design. The Duke AI for Art Competition was developed to explore the intersection of AI and creative art practice with GANs.

Over the past month, students, faculty, and staff from across the Duke community have developed works that engage in this space. Submissions for the competition were eligible for a series of cash prizes of $5000 for first place, $2500 for second place, and $1000 for third place. The submissions are judged by faculty from Duke’s Art, Art History & Visual Studies Department and from the Rhodes Information Initiative at Duke (Rhodes-iiD).

Artworks will be on display on monitors and walls throughout the Rubenstein Art Center.
